Why spend the money on a USB key?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Have you ever wondered why retailers charge $40 for a measly 8GB USB key? It’s all about being lame. Go get a micro usb card adapter for $7 and an 8GB microSD card for $10 and save yourself some money.

Once you have the card reader, microSD cards are fairly inexpensive and you can quadruple your storage over a traditional USB memory stick.

The end.

Palm Springs and the ESRI Developer Summit

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Been at the ESRI Developer Summit in Palm Springs since Sunday.  The drive out here was about 5, 5.5 hours but luckily Caleb drove the whole way.  I am NOT looking forward to this drive by myself tomorrow!  But I AM looking forward to seeing Jen and Kai… immensely.

Anyways, we’re at the Hyatt Regency.  Caleb said that it was pretty much a dump last year, but they’ve renovated since then and it’s actually pretty nice.  Couldn’t be any worse than the dump that Jen and i stayed in when she had to go down for Federal jury duty.  Ugh.

Downtown Palm Springs is interesting.  There are a lot of good restaurants within walking distance.  There are a lot of families with their kids, and a lot of girls dressed up like they’re going out clubbing but we had yet to see any clubs.  Two “pubs” and some liquor stores and that was it.  Where are these people going?  I think i’m too boring of a person to ever venture out and find out.

The Convention Center had some cool sculptures and stuff outside in this rock garden type area.  And they had a Chair Forest!  Who knew such things existed?  Surely not I!

Here are some pics from the whole thingy.

On the way out, i kept passing this truck.  the logo on the side said Super White Power.  I guess there was a brand of trucks, White.  Interesting how that sounds now though.

A buncha stuff, and then some…

So a lot of things have happened since the last post… and even before then.

Microsoft PDC (Professional Developers Conference) was last November, and I was fortunate to be able to go with a few other CygNet employees.

Christmas was crazy, shuffling back and forth between families plus a sick kid ridden with two ear infections…  New Year’s was just as crazy, down in Camarillo – Kai screaming his head off from 10PM to 4am in the hotel like someone was sticking him with needles.

Valentine’s Day was chill, with us hanging out at home and able to go out to dinner the following night (although Jen was really sick and feeling like crap).

And now… here we are… and Kai is almost 11 months old.  Can it really have been almost a year now?

I’m getting old.

Where has chorpie gone?

I’ve been super lazy.  It’s in the banner, you get it.  More to come.

Power Outage?!?! WTF?

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Can you believe it!?!  Weaksauce!  No power… boo.  Thank goodness for laptops/netbooks and tethered modem access through the BlackBerry.

By the way, the Dell Mini 10v is a pretty sweet netbook, if you’re looking for netbooks.  The EeePC’s have much better battery lifespan though.

Hope the power comes back soon…

Sharp Aquos 46″ LCD Television

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

That’s right!  Jen and I picked up a new TV last night.  Now… to figure out if we can mount it above the fireplace or not.  I’m pretty sure it will be fine right there.

The 27″ CRT television that  Jen got me 9 or so years ago has served us well, but I think its about time for it to leave.

Teletubbies are just going to look SOOOO awesome on this!  I wonder if they have Teletubbies on Blu-Ray…

Happy Birfday to Gene!

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

We drove up to Prunedale today and met Mom and Dad, then caravan’ed to San Jose – dropped the truck off at Mike and Mary’s, and then met Gene and Kristine for lunch.  Had a little coffee afterwards then headed back home.  Quick little day trip, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

The J. Paul Getty Museum (“The Getty”)

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

This year’s annual CygNet party included a trip to The Getty followed by an awesome dinner banquet in Santa Barbara.

Chris and I spent almost the entire time there wandering outside taking pictures of the scenery, architecture (amazing) and random things scattered around the grounds.

I was worried that it would be a horrible day for pictures as it was pouring rain the entire bus ride down, but as soon as we arrived the clouds broke and the rain stopped.  It ended up being perfect weather for strolling around and taking pictures.

I found out that admission to The Getty is 100% free.  Parking costs $10 per car, and the food court has normal-priced food.  Its amazing, the only tourist-type place that i’ve been to that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to visit.  I definitely would recommend this visit to anyone!  And I only barely touched on part of the photography exhibit!

Happy New Year!

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

A very mellow New Year’s this year.  Hangin out at home, relaxing – Jen fell asleep early because she has a little alien inside of her sucking her energy… 2008 was a great year and here’s to hoping 2009 is even better!

SLO Riders Bike Night

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

In-N-Out after the ride up north

Tonight was the same as any night… sort of – I went on a ride with the SLO Riders Motorcycle Group (not sure its really a “club”).  It was a ton of fun.  They’re not picky about who goes on the rides (hence me being able to go) and they’re really safe and even have a lead/trail biker to make sure no one gets lost.  Pretty nice.

I’m definitely not as fast as a lot of those guys, especially the guys on the super crotch rockets – not only can i barely keep up on my little Honda Hawk GT, but they’re super quick in the twisties and i’m definitely not there.

Tonight’s ride was up 101 from SLO to Hwy 58 through Santa Margarita, and out to Hwy 229 N, cutting over Hwy 41W to Atascadero, where we stopped for some dinner.  A quick bite to eat and we made our way back down Hwy 101 to SLO to meet up at McCarthy’s for the weekly Bike Night.

Met Fleezus, Julie, Matt, and Alex there – had a Guinness with them and hung out for a little while, then took off for the trek back up to Paso.  Definitely fun, wish I had a bike that could more easily keep up – that’s not complaining, i’m grateful to even HAVE a motorcycle!
